What I liked about this book:
I loved the style that the author wrote this book in. The metaphors were odd again, but genius and had me laughing at them as an extra comedic relief. I loved the plot, and all the downworlders that the Shadowhunters mixed with.

What I disliked about this book:
Do I need to say this again? The fact that the reader is still in the mist thinking that the hero and heroine are brother and sister. I know that in the future it will come out that they aren’t, but yuck! They even kiss in this book and it’s like the best kiss the girl ever has and her blood boils. Bleh. Anyway, I know all of my YA loving friends think I’m stupid for dwelling on this so much, but it was just something that I can’t believe the author let her readers go on with for so long.

Who I would recommend this book to:
Anyone that liked the first book in the Mortal Instruments series, anyone that likes fantasy, anyone that likes science fiction.

What I felt the book was about:
Basically, Valentine is back and gets the sword, one of the mortal instruments. Jace and Alec, Isabell and Clary have to get it back. Jace gets arrested as an Inquisitor comes to New York to find out if he is lying about being in league with his father, Valentine. Simon and Clary are kind of dating at the beginning, but Simon cuts it off as he sees that Clary isn’t happy with him as her boyfriend, and he starts to like a werewolf. There are many attacks and a bunch of action packed scenes as the first book, but Jace and Clary discover that they have a few special abilities. Clary can draw new runes and Jace can kind of fly. Simon ends up being a big part of this book as he turns into a vampire. They all end up on Valentine’s ship where Valentine has snatched Simon and the werewolf and are keeping them in order to provoke the shadowhunters. There is a huge war on the deck of the ship, between many shadowhunters and demons that were summoned by Valentine. Clary gets into the ship and finds the werewolf girl and gets her out just as she gets snatched up by Valentine. Jace later finds a dead-like Simon in the innards of the ship, as dead as a vampire could be when weakened, and allows Simon to drink his blood to stay alive. Clary then writes a rune on the ship that destroys it and almost everyone makes it out safely. Later, they are riding the floating truck back to the shore when the sun is about to come up and Simon is ready for death. He tells Clary that he loves her and lays there waiting for the sun to destroy him as he is a real vampire. Clary opens her eyes and Simon is still alive as the sun is gleaming over them. Somehow, Simon can be out in the sun. In the end they find out that Clary can save her mother, but she has to go to the city of glass. There is also a scene where Clary and Jace kiss from the wishes of the faerie queen and it’s seen through the eyes of Clary as magical, SICK! Also a scene where Jace suggests that they run away together, being brother and sister, and wiping that away so that they can be together as lovers. BLEH!

Favorite excerpts or quotes from the book:
I can’t find any one particular quote that I enjoyed the most, but I really loved the sarcasm in the dialogue.
